1440p vs 4K for gaming
More detail or more headroom? The right answer starts with your screen and the games you enjoy.
Understand the difference
A 2560 × 1440 image contains about 3.7 million pixels. A 3840 × 2160 image contains about 8.3 million. That is 2.25 times as many pixels, though actual performance does not scale by a fixed ratio.
When 1440p makes sense
1440p is a strong starting point when smooth motion and high refresh rates are priorities. It can leave more GPU headroom for demanding effects, especially when compared with the same settings at 4K.
When to consider 4K
4K is appealing for detailed environments, larger displays and a system built around visual fidelity. Check performance in your chosen games, and decide whether you are comfortable using upscaling or adjusting demanding settings.
Treat generated frames separately
Frame generation can improve displayed smoothness but is not equivalent to a matching increase in native rendered frames or input responsiveness. Compare native performance, upscaling and generated-frame results separately.
